Although my main muse lately has been cats (especially chubby ones), I have an affinity to all animals. Prior to my ceramics journey entering my life, I was studying to become a veterinarian. This ceramic sculpture allowed me to create all the lovely doggos, happily playing, resting and just being a good boy/girl. They are oblivious to the side eye of an unimpressed black cat who is currently looking after them. I imagined this is the look of a cat who for some reason works at a doggy daycare centre. I love the contrast of the shiny, smooth black cat with the textured and relatively realistic and more appropriately proportioned canine friends.
This large sculpture has been lovingly hand built with stoneware clay - the main body coil built and each dog hand sculpted and attached to the unimpressed cat. Hand painted with underglazes, glaze and and twice fired to temperatures up to 1280℃ to create a durable and strong ceramic sculpture.
